Bernard Ahiafor, Chairman of Parliament’s Appointments Committee, has revealed that Minority MPs were following direct orders from their leader, Afenyo-Markin, during the violent disruptions on January 30, 2025, which marred the ministerial vetting process.

Speaking before the Committee investigating the incident, Ahiafor expressed shock at the behavior of the Minority members, recounting how, at one point, Afenyo-Markin was particularly harsh toward Deputy Minority Chief Whip Jerry Shaib.

Ahiafor described overhearing Afenyo-Markin instructing that certain individuals be brought into the vetting room, followed by MPs entering without permission.

He also recalled an episode where the Minority leader ordered all microphones to be turned off, further escalating the disruption.

“I couldn’t quite understand what they were trying to achieve,” Ahiafor said, adding that moments later, a comment in Twi was made, leading MPs to start pulling cables, resulting in chaos.

The disturbance led to the derailment of the vetting process and damage to state property.

The investigation continues as the Committee works to determine accountability for the incident.
