Noussair Mazraoui, a defender for Manchester United, has given a direct evaluation of the team’s difficult season, calling their Premier League campaign “shitty” and relying on a Europa League victory to restore pride.
The Moroccan international didn’t hold back when he spoke at the club’s media day before their Europa League final matchup with Tottenham Hotspur in Bilbao next week.
“Europa League season will be a big success, but the Premier League season will be shitty,”
“That’s just the reality. Of course, in the end, you might have a trophy, but the Premier League is the main competition — it’s every week, week in, week out, and that’s what people judge you on.” He said.
After stints at elite European clubs, Mazraoui joined United and acknowledged that adjusting to the losing culture has been hard this season.
“I come from clubs where I’m not used to losing. I will never get used to losing, wherever I am. So yeah, it’s painful,”
“Life is sometimes painful, and you just have to go through it.” He added.
The defender uses his World Cup experience with Morocco to stay positive despite the setback ahead of the crucial final.
“It’s not my first high-pressure game. I’ve played in a World Cup semi-final. This is similar in a way. I love the pressure.”
Following their 17th league loss, a 2-0 home loss to West Ham, which dropped them to 16th place in the Premier League standings, Manchester United’s domestic problems reached a new low.
The team may be the worst in the club’s history, according to head coach Ruben Amorim, who called the season “embarrassing.”
After a disorganized season characterized by inconsistency, internal strife, and increasing pressure on players and staff, United now views the Europa League final as its final opportunity to win a trophy and qualify for the Champions League.
