Private legal practitioner Kwame Owiredu has criticized the conduct of Lawyer Martin Kpebu, describing it as unethical and calling on him to apologize to the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
Speaking in an interview on Noon Target on Bullet TV, Lawyer Owiredu justified Kpebu’s arrest at the OSP premises, arguing that the narrative provided by the Special Prosecutor’s office stands since neither Kpebu nor his lawyer have refuted it.
He noted that Kpebu acted improperly by filming within the OSP premises, which he stressed is a designated security zone. “I also listened to Martin Kpebu and I think his conduct is a bit unbecoming of somebody of his stature,” Owiredu remarked.
The legal practitioner further expressed concern over Kpebu’s public commentary on the ongoing investigations against him by the OSP.
“If you are being investigated or you’re going through processes at the Office of the Special Prosecutor, you don’t come out and say the Office of the Special Prosecutor is on a suicide mission,” he stated.
Owiredu concluded that Kpebu’s actions amounted to “gross disrespect” and insisted that he must render an apology to the OSP.
Background
The ongoing dispute between the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) and lawyer Martin Kpebu has its roots in Kpebu’s relentless public criticism of the institution’s operations and leadership under Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng.
Kpebu has repeatedly accused the OSP of overstepping its mandate, abusing its powers, and failing to effectively address high-level corruption. He has also questioned the legality of certain arrests, asset seizures, and prosecutions, insisting that the office often acts outside the law.
The OSP has consistently rejected these claims, describing Kpebu’s remarks as misleading and inaccurate. In several statements, the office has defended its work and dismissed his allegations.
Tensions reached a new height on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, when Kpebu, one of the OSP’s fiercest critics was arrested and detained after honoring an invitation to the OSP headquarters. He had appeared in connection with corruption allegations he had personally lodged against the Special Prosecutor.
According to the OSP, the arrest was not linked to those allegations but was instead due to alleged obstruction. The office claims Kpebu insulted security officers and interfered with their lawful duties, stressing that the detention was solely a response to misconduct at its premises.
