Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with China as the country seeks to overcome economic difficulties.
Speaking at the Chinese Lantern Festival Gala at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium on Sunday, February 9, Mr Mahama emphasised the importance of international cooperation in addressing economic instability.
He described China as a key development partner, highlighting its role in Ghana’s efforts to restore economic stability.
“As we celebrate tonight, let us reflect on the deeper message of this festival. The world today faces many challenges—economic uncertainty, global conflicts, climate change, and emerging health concerns. Yet, the light of this festival reminds us that even in times of darkness, hope must never be lost,” he said.
Mr Mahama stressed that resilience and unity were essential in navigating economic difficulties.
He expressed gratitude to Ghana’s international partners, particularly China, for their continued support, adding that such cooperation was vital for long-term economic recovery and sustainable development.
“Ghana, like many other countries, is working hard to address economic challenges, and we are grateful for our friends and partners, including China. As we move forward, we must continue to embrace cooperation and mutual respect, ensuring that the benefits of our partnerships are shared by all our people,” he added.
Ghana and China have maintained strong diplomatic and economic ties over the years, with China playing a significant role in infrastructure development, trade, and investment in the West African nation.
