President John Dramani Mahama has tasked newly appointed Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, with revitalising the country’s sports sector and restoring the Black Stars to their former prominence.
Speaking at the swearing-in of 17 ministers at the Jubilee House on Friday, 7 February, Mahama emphasised the need for a comprehensive overhaul of Ghana’s sports landscape. He called for the introduction of transparency, professionalism, and modern management practices in the sector.
“You have the monumental task of restoring Ghana’s place of pride in Africa and world sports,” Mahama told Adams. “The current state of Ghana’s sports is unacceptable for a country with our pedigree. I expect you to bring transparency, professionalism, and modernity to the sector.”
The President specifically urged Adams to focus on improving all sports disciplines, with a particular emphasis on reforming the Ghana Football Association (GFA), stating that this would be key to returning the Black Stars to their glory days.
Mahama’s comments reflect the government’s commitment to strengthening the nation’s sporting reputation as a means of fostering national pride and international recognition.
