President John Mahama has revealed plans to introduce a comprehensive code of conduct for all government officials, aiming to enforce accountability and responsible governance.

Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony of newly approved ministers on Friday, February 7, 2025, Mr Mahama emphasised that his administration would not tolerate arrogance, lavish lifestyles, or the abuse of public resources.

“This government will be defined by modesty and respect for the people of Ghana. There will be no space for arrogance or extravagance,” he stated.

In a bid to cut government spending, Mahama also announced a ban on non-essential travel for officials, instructing the Chief of Staff to ensure any necessary trips are approved and carried out with modesty.

“No first-class air travel will be allowed, and all signs of affluence are to be avoided,” he added.

The President reinforced his commitment to fighting corruption, underlining that the new code would clearly outline what is and isn’t acceptable for government officials.

Mr Mahama also revealed that he would soon receive the report from the committee overseeing Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) on February 10.

“While it’s important to hold previous officials accountable, preventing corruption in the first place is even more crucial,” he said.

He urged the ministers to serve with integrity and reminded them that their mission was to improve the lives of Ghanaians, not to exploit them. “Our duty is to enrich our country and ensure that prosperity is shared fairly among all,” he concluded.
