The president’s remarks come at a time of economic uncertainty and growing concerns over governance and social cohesion, with calls for strong leadership and strategic reforms to address the country’s challenges

President John Dramani Mahama has called on the newly sworn-in Council of State to ensure their contributions go beyond rhetoric and offer insightful, actionable, and transformative guidance to help propel Ghana forward.

Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony on Tuesday, February 18, Mahama stressed the importance of the Council’s role in addressing the country’s economic challenges, social cohesion issues, and the need to strengthen democratic institutions.

“The time we find ourselves in demands nothing less than selfless service, constructive dialogue, and unwavering patriotism,” he said.

The president described the Council of State as a distinguished advisory body composed of men and women of integrity, experience, and sound judgment.

“…It is in this state that the Council of State was established, to serve as a fountain of guidance, a reservoir of experience, and a patrician of non-partisan insight for the executive arm of government,” he noted.

Mr Mahama urged members to take an active role in governance and policy discussions, leveraging their diverse backgrounds to provide informed recommendations.

“Your role is not merely ceremonial; it is one of profound responsibility. You are expected to offer wise counselling on matters of governance, policy, and national development,” he said.
