President John Dramani Mahama has reassigned Edward Bawa, recently appointed as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), to take up the role of Group CEO at GOIL, the country’s leading indigenous oil marketing company.
Mr Bawa, who assumed the GNPC role on 16 January 2025, replacing Joseph Dadzie, has now been tasked with leading GOIL.
He confirmed via a Facebook post on February 12, 2025: “I have been reassigned to GOIL as Group CEO, effective immediately, as part of the President’s broader energy sector strategy.”
Mr Bawa’s reassignment leaves the position of GNPC CEO vacant.
GOIL, a major player in Ghana’s downstream petroleum industry, has been instrumental in ensuring the country’s energy security and economic growth.
Mr Bawa served as MP for Bongo from 2017 to 2025.
He was a member of the Parliamentary Committees on Mines and Energy as well as Communications.
Mr Bawa previously worked as a Communications Consultant for the World Bank’s Oil and Gas Capacity Building Project at the Ministry of Energy, where he led public advocacy efforts and stakeholder engagement for key energy initiatives.
