On Thursday, October 9, 2025, President John Dramani Mahama has scheduled a meeting with the Attorney General, Chief Justice, and other important officials to talk on long-term remedies to Ghana’s careless misappropriation of public funds.

The Auditor-General’s findings, which have revealed multiple instances of financial irregularities across public organizations, have repeatedly aroused concerns, prompting the meeting.

At the 12th Annual Conference of Chairpersons of Governing Boards and Chief Executives of Public Services in Ho, President Mahama spoke about his personal observations of the current Public Accounts Committee hearing, describing the low level of accountability as pitiful and expressing disappointment over the ongoing mismanagement of state resources.

‎“I’ve been watching the Public Accounts Committee, and it’s so pathetic. Every year, we gather and hear the same reckless misuse of public funds,” He stressed.

In order to penalize those found guilty of financial malfeasance, the President advocated for a quicker and more efficient legal system. He emphasized that the cycle of waste and corruption will persist unless individuals are held responsible.

The President claims that with proper management, the financial losses found by the Auditor-General could have been utilized to propel national development.

Additionally, President Mahama criticized the inadequate implementation of the constitutional mandate that Parliament form a committee to oversee the conclusions of the Auditor-General. According to him, there is ineffectiveness un the current Audit Report Implementation Committees (ARICs).

In order to discourage future instances of public funds being misused, the president further stated that individuals must be held accountable.

‎“Until people know they will be held responsible for misusing public resources, nothing will change,” Mahama emphasised.
