President John Dramani Mahama has announced a ban on first-class travel for government appointees as part of efforts to curb government expenditure and promote modesty within his administration.
Speaking during the swearing-in of new ministers at Jubilee House on Friday, February 7, 2025, President Mahama emphasized that his administration would be defined by respect for the Ghanaian people and the prudent use of public resources.
The president revealed that he has instructed the Chief of Staff to formally communicate the new policy to ministers and other government appointees.
“Any travel that is deemed essential and necessary must be cleared first with the Office of the Chief of Staff and such travels will have to be taken in modesty—no first class,” he stated.
Mr Mahama also made it clear that his administration would have no tolerance for arrogance or excessive displays of wealth.
“The resources you will be working with belong to the Ghanaian people who put us in office,” he said, urging ministers to be mindful of the need to avoid wasting public funds on luxury.
The announcement comes as part of Mahama’s broader efforts to instill fiscal discipline and accountability within the government.
