President John Dramani Mahama has officially sworn in 18 newly appointed Ambassadors and High Commissioners aimed at deepening Ghana’s international partnerships and advancing national interests abroad.
The ceremony, held at the Jubilee House on September 4, 2025, brought together seasoned diplomats, government officials, and family members of the appointees. President Mahama emphasized the importance of diplomacy in promoting peace, trade, and Ghana’s leadership on the global stage.
“You are not just representatives of government you are ambassadors of Ghana’s values, aspirations, and resilience,” Mahama stated during the swearing-in.
The new envoys will be posted to key countries across Africa, Europe, Asia, and the Americas. Their mandates include strengthening bilateral ties, attracting investment, and advocating for Ghana’s positions on global issues such as climate change, migration, and regional security.
Among the appointees are career diplomats, academics, and public servants with backgrounds in governance, economics, and international relations. The appointments reflect a blend of continuity and renewal, with some envoys returning to diplomatic service and others stepping into the role for the first time.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has pledged full support to the new ambassadors, noting that their success will depend on strategic engagement, cultural sensitivity, and a clear understanding of Ghana’s evolving foreign policy priorities.
This move comes amid growing calls for Ghana to assert itself more boldly in international forums and to leverage its diplomatic missions for economic and cultural diplomacy.
The full list of appointees and their respective postings is expected to be published by the Ministry in the coming days.
