Lufart, a leading anti-malarial medication, was adjudged the Over-the-Counter (OTC) Brand of the Year, while its parent company, Tobinco Pharmaceuticals Limited, was named Pharmaceutical Company of the Year at the maiden edition of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana’s (PSGH) Pharma Excellence Awards held in Accra.
The prestigious award recognizes the company and lufart’s outstanding impact, accessibility, and contribution to quality healthcare delivery in Ghana.
The event brought together key stakeholders in the pharmaceutical industry to celebrate innovation, excellence, and dedication to improving public health.
A managing director at Tobinco Pharmaceuticals Limited, Dr. Christopher Mensa said the win for Tobinco Pharmaceuticals Limited, reaffirms its position as a market leader in the pharmaceutical space.
“This is a back-to-back award just about a month back, we won the same awards out of Pharma. There was a general healthcare award. And now that we have had it in our core industry, then it affirms the fact that truly, Ghanaians have come to appreciate Lufart as a good brand. and they still hold high Tobinco Pharmaceuticals as the company of the year. And it’s a big pride for all of us.” – Dr. Christopher Mensa stressed.
Head of Research and Development at Entrance Pharmaceuticals and Research Centre, Dr Justice Philip Annan underscored the critical role of local pharmaceutical brands in enhancing healthcare delivery in the country.
He said, “What I want the general public to understand is that know where your pharmacy and medicine products are coming from. And wherever you see entrance followed by Tobinco, know that it is quality that is coming to your house. The customer should be expecting nothing but quality. Nothing but quality and affordability from entrance and Tobinco. We are also making sure that the products that are chained out of the factories and are marketed by Tobinco is of the best quality.”
The company was lauded for its commitment to producing high-quality, affordable medicines and its consistent investment in health systems. General Manager for Oral Liquid Production at Entrance Pharmaceuticals and Research Center, Dr. Evelyn Ofei, won the Mark Owiredu Individual Achiever Award.
“I won the award for the Mark Owiredu Award. That’s for the pharmacists in manufacturing and so basically just showing how influential the pharmacist is in the manufacturing industry in Ghana where now we are concentrating on ensuring that most of our products or medicines are produced from locally.” – she posited.
Dr. Evelyn Ofei also expresses her gratitude and urged young pharmacists to “keep on doing what is good, keep on doing what you believe in. One day, one day, you will surely be discovered.”
The Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana Pharma Excellence Award seeks to recognize individuals and institutions that are championing excellence, professionalism and innovation in Ghana’s pharmaceutical sector.
