A mother and her three children have died in a house fire in Gyinyase, in Ghana’s Ashanti Region, despite desperate attempts by neighbours to rescue them.
The mother-of-three has been identified as Linda Agyemang, a nurse at Kumasi South Hospital, and her children.
The four of them were trapped inside their three-bedroom home as flames engulfed the building in the early hours of Saturday.
Firefighters arrived at the scene after being alerted but were unable to save the family.
Their bodies were later found in the bathroom, burnt beyond recognition.
Three other occupants of the house were rescued and are currently receiving treatment at Kumasi South Hospital.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
Ashanti Regional Public Relations Officer for the Ghana Fire Service, DO II Peter Addai, confirmed the incident, saying emergency responders received a distress call at 4:36 AM on 8 February.
He said they realised the fire was intense upon arriving at the scene, so, they called for additional support.
Unfortunately, the family-of-of got consumed bybthe blaze.
The charred bodies have been transported to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for preservation as officials continue their inquiries.
