Founder and leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Mr. Kofi Akpaloo, has strongly denied making insensitive comments about the recent tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of several high-ranking government officials.
The LPG leader came under heavy criticism from sections of the public and media after a viral video surfaced online, allegedly showing him making controversial remarks about the deaths. The video quickly drew backlash from Ghanaians and media personalities, who condemned the supposed insensitivity of his comments.
But speaking on Atinka 104.7 FM’s Morning Show hosted by Ekow Budu-Sam, Mr. Akpaloo clarified that the video was taken out of context and misrepresented his actual comments.
“I never said what people are claiming. I will never rejoice over anyone’s death, especially not these respected personalities. They have families, children, and friends. I can never be happy about such a tragedy,” Mr. Akpaloo stated.

According to him, the conversation in question was part of a broader discussion on road safety and abandoned infrastructure projects, not about the helicopter crash specifically.
“The conversation was about the number of people who have died through accidents on our roads. I spoke about how successive governments have abandoned road projects, and I used the opportunity to draw the government’s attention to the need to complete them,” he explained.
Mr. Akpaloo expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident and emphasized his personal connection to one of the victims, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, whom he described as someone who had once come to his defense.
“Dr. Omane Boamah once defended me publicly on Facebook when false accusations were made against me, alleging I swapped my ballot position with that of the NDC. I can never forget that. I was deeply saddened by the news of the crash,” he said solemnly.
The LPG leader has urged the public to disregard the viral video, stressing that it was a misleading representation of his views.
Mr. Akpaloo also used the opportunity to call for unity and support for the bereaved families, while renewing his appeal to the government to prioritize road infrastructure and safety.
