The Vice-Chancellor encouraged the students: “With determination, hard work, and God on your side, there is nothing you cannot achieve. Set high academic goals, push yourself beyond your limits, and take advantage of every opportunity this University provides.”

The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has admitted 50,895 new students for the 2024/2025 academic year.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Mrs Rita Akosua Dickson, who announced the figures, said the University received a total of 92,975 applications this year. Out of these, 69,882 applicants met the basic entry requirements for admission.

However, due to certain constraints, the University was able to admit only 50,895 students, comprising 11,084 postgraduate students and 39,811 undergraduate students.

Prof. Dickson was speaking at a virtual matriculation ceremony, which officially inducts freshmen into the university community.

“You have satisfied the entrance requirements of this University, and I formally admit you as junior members in statu pupillari of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, KNUST. You are now members of a community committed to advancing knowledge for sustainable development in Africa. Embrace the university’s core values of Integrity, Innovation, Relevance, Excellence, and Stewardship,” she said.

She urged students to make use of digital tools and resources available at KNUST, including the KNUST Virtual Classroom and the E-Learning Centre’s training sessions, to enhance their studies.

Professor Dickson also encouraged students to utilise the support services available, such as the Directorate of Students Affairs and the KNUST Counselling Centre, to enrich their university experience.

She assured students of the university’s commitment to their safety and well-being.

“The road ahead will not always be smooth. There will be challenges, late-night studies, deadlines to meet, and so on. Always remember you are here because we believe in your potential.”
