A journalist with the Class Media Group was reportedly assaulted by personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service on Monday while covering tensions at the Kasoa New Market.
The incident occurred as the reporter filmed a confrontation between firefighters and traders in the aftermath of a recent blaze. Witnesses said the journalist was attacked while attempting to document the exchange. Several residents at the scene were also allegedly assaulted during the fracas.
The Ghana Police Service is yet to announce any investigation into the matter.
The confrontation followed a major fire outbreak at the Kasoa New Market on Sunday, January 4, which drew emergency crews from the Kasoa and Weija fire stations. The Ghana National Fire Service said personnel from both stations were deployed to contain the blaze.
