Ghanaian actor and politician, John Dumelo, has reaffirmed his commitment to the creative arts sector, despite his recent appointment as a Member of Parliament and Deputy Minister designate for Food and Agriculture.
Speaking at the launch of Celestine Donkor’s 11th Celestial Praiz concert on February 6, 2025, Dumelo expressed his admiration for the gospel musician’s work and promised to continue supporting the industry. He emphasized that his new roles in agriculture and politics would not cause him to forget his roots in the arts.
“Despite the fact that I am an MP now and I am in the Agric Ministry, I still will not forget where I came from, which is the arts sector. I will always be an arts person, I will always be a creative person, and if we don’t develop our own, who else will develop it for us?” Dumelo said during the event at Tang Palace in Accra.
The actor also highlighted the economic significance of the creative arts, noting that while some people may underestimate the industry, it plays a vital role in the country’s economy.
Dumelo’s appointment as Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture was confirmed yesterday, although he had previously been a popular choice for a position in the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts. Known for his strong involvement in agriculture, Dumelo has long advocated for the youth to embrace the sector as a viable career path.
