A 36-year-old job seeker, Foster Nyarko, has been convicted by an Accra Circuit Court for stealing a mobile phone from an office at the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) in Accra.
Nyarko was found guilty of unlawfully entering the office of a Principal Administrator at CHRAJ and stealing her Samsung Galaxy A54 5G mobile phone, valued at GHC 4,999. The theft occurred in October 2024, when Nyarko, claiming to be following up on a job application, entered an unoccupied office and took the phone.
Nyarko was apprehended on January 30, 2025, following a similar offence at the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons. CCTV footage from both incidents provided crucial evidence of his involvement.
The court, presided over by Basilia Adjei-Tawiah, deferred sentencing until February 27, 2025, after Nyarko pleaded guilty to charges of unlawful entry and stealing.
According to the prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Daniel Ofori Appiah, Nyarko, an unemployed resident of Effiakuma in the Western Region, had initially approached the front desk at CHRAJ, falsely claiming he was following up on a job application.
The complainant, Celis-Jane Nyadroh, reported the theft the day after it occurred, and CCTV footage later confirmed Nyarko’s role in the crime. Nyarko was escorted back to the scene of the theft, where he admitted to the crime.
