Residents of Jacobu in the Amansie Central District are preparing to stage a massive demonstration in response to the deteriorating condition of roads in the area and the collapse of a key bridge.
The residents say the poor infrastructure has made life unbearable, with dangerous potholes and the broken bridge posing serious risks to commuters and motorists alike.
Speaking to Atinka News, many residents recounted the physical toll the roads have taken on them, citing back pain and general body weakness due to the rough and bumpy rides they endure daily.
They also expressed frustration over increased transport fares, blaming commercial drivers for taking advantage of the collapsed bridge to charge exorbitantly. According to the residents, the situation has worsened their financial burden.
The residents are calling on the government, particularly the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, to urgently intervene. Their demands include the immediate reconstruction of the collapsed bridge and rehabilitation of the roads in the area to ease transportation challenges.
In an interview with Atinka News Regional Correspondent Obofo Michael, several residents shared their grievances and called for swift action.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communication Officer for the Odotobri Constituency, Mr. Andrews Kwarankye, also weighed in on the issue, describing the road conditions as a major concern for both the community and political stakeholders.
Residents say they will proceed with the planned demonstration if authorities fail to respond to their calls.
