Ghana Hockey Association Executive Board Member, Isaac Graham, has commended the national teams’ performance at the 2025 Hockey AFCON, despite missing out on medals in both the men’s and women’s competitions.
At the tournament in Egypt, Ghana’s women’s team finished runners-up after a 4–0 loss to South Africa in the final, while the men’s side placed fifth.
South Africa will represent Africa at the Hockey World Cup in both categories. Mr. Graham said Team Ghana showed great effort and progress throughout the competition.
“I will put it as a very good performance by the [Ghana] team. They really did well… I think the team really performance very well. Yes, we were looking at having a podium finish for both teams, but we got it for only the ladies.” Isaac Graham remarked in a Citi Sports exclusive interview.
“The men did well but they couldn’t get to the podium but a lot of learning for them also because they have a very young team so most of them are having [to compete] for the first time on the international stage so it’s going to be a learning [curve] for all of us, and we will build on it from here”. He added.
Arriving on Monday, Team Ghana’s Mavis Berko and Dorothy Ngissah emerged as shining stars — Berko claiming the Top Scorer title and Ngissah named Best Goalkeeper of the competition.
