Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yuhonu, has promoted all members of the Police Royal Ladies, an all-female ceremonial unit of the Ghana Police Service named in honour of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
The promotion followed honour parades mounted at the Police Headquarters in Accra and at the Manhyia Palace during the first Akwasidae celebration of 2026.
According to the IGP, the guard of honour was mounted as a mark of deep respect and appreciation for the Asantehene’s unprecedented engagement with the Ghana Police Service. He described the performance of the Police Royal Police Ladies as exceptional and symbolic.
“We have these ladies called the Royal Ladies, named after Otumfuo. They were present to grace the occasion and to make history at the Manhyia Palace, an event also attended by members of the Police Management Board,” Mr Yuhonu said.
He commended the unit for its discipline and dedication, noting that its members have consistently distinguished themselves in service to the nation.
“I wish to announce to Otumfuo that these ladies have been working very hard. They have distinguished themselves and remain committed to doing everything possible to make Ghana proud”.
“In recognition of this historic occasion—being the first of its kind both at the National Police Headquarters and at the Manhyia Palace—the Police Administration has decided to promote them to their next ranks,” the IGP added.
The Police Royal Ladies unit was established to project professionalism, discipline, and ceremonial excellence within the Ghana Police Service.
