The Ghana Railway Development Authority (GRDA) has a new Ag. CEO, Dr Frederick Appoh.
Dr Appoh succeeds Mr Yaw Owusu, who served as CEO until December 22, 2024.
Dr Appoh brings over a decade of international railway experience across Africa, Europe, and Asia.
He is a Chartered Railway Systems and Infrastructure expert leading Ghana’s railway modernisation agenda.
With his strategic leadership skills, he has successfully led major railway projects, focusing on system integration, rolling stock modernisation, and operational efficiency.
His consultancy work includes collaborations with industry leaders such as Bombardier Transportation, Alstom, Siemens Mobility, Transport for London, Network Rail, and Hitachi Rail. Before his appointment, he was the Executive Director of RAMS Engineering Ltd, UK.
In his new role, Dr Appoh’s vision for Ghana’s railway sector is centred on modernisation, sustainability, and economic growth.
His priorities include ensuring safe and reliable train operations, accelerating Greenfield developments, and enhancing Brownfield projects to improve connectivity, create jobs, and open new economic corridors, GRDA said in a statement copied to Bullet TV.
By adopting advanced technologies and international best practices, he aims to position Ghana’s railway network as a key driver of industrial and regional development.
Dr. Appoh previously served in the British Army’s Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers.
He holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering (Railway Systems) from the University of Manchester, an MBA from Cranfield University, an MSc in Reliability Engineering from the University of Manchester, and a BSc in Mechanical Engineering from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
His expertise in safety standards and compliance (EN50126/EN50129) will be crucial in driving Ghana’s railway transformation.
GRDA has encouraged all staff, stakeholders, and contractors to extend their support and cooperation to him as he leads the railway sector toward achieving its goals.
