The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has initiated an investigation following a shooting incident at the Sogakope Customs checkpoint on February 19, 2025, which left an innocent bystander injured.
In a statement released on February 20, the GRA assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway to uncover the details of what led to the incident.
The authority expressed sympathy for those affected and emphasized its commitment to safeguarding the safety and well-being of all involved.
The incident occurred after GRA Customs officers, acting on intelligence, attempted to intercept a suspected smuggled Mercedes-Benz E350 sedan, believed to have been brought into Ghana from Togo.
When the vehicle’s occupants fled the scene, officers fired warning shots in an attempt to stop them. Unfortunately, a stray bullet struck a bystander just meters from the checkpoint.
The injured individual was quickly transported to the Sogakope Comboni Hospital, where they are now recovering.
