Kwame Agbodza, Minister for Roads and Highways, has assured that the government will not abandon any ongoing road projects under President John Dramani Mahama, pointing to a renewed emphasis on continuity, proper funding, and faster execution.
Speaking on the Resetting Ghana Tour in the Bono Region, he stressed that all current projects will be kept on track.
“From the time President Mahama took over, no ongoing road project should be suspended or cancelled. We are continuing all road projects,” he stated.
He noted that many road networks had significantly deteriorated during the period of investigations, with the cocoa roads programme among the hardest hit.
Mr. Agbodza also revealed that government inherited substantial arrears owed to contractors, estimated at about GH¢40 billion.
“Last year alone, we paid close to GH¢10 billion, and not one of those contracts was awarded by this government,” he said, explaining that the payments have enabled contractors to return to site.
He further outlined government’s strategy to prioritise key infrastructure under a flagship initiative dubbed the “Big Push,” aimed at fast-tracking major trunk road projects nationwide.
“All the major trunk roads should be put on contract, prioritised and driven under what we call the Big Push,” he explained.
Reaffirming the administration’s commitment, Mr. Agbodza expressed confidence in delivering visible improvements across the country.
“President Mahama is our chance to fix the broken roads across this country. Every region will see results,” he added.
