Ghana’s Embassy in Iran has reopened after being temporarily closed in June of this year, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA). On Tuesday, September 2, 2025, a press release said the decision comes after the security situation in Tehran, where the Embassy is located, improved. The Embassy is anticipated to reopen for business on Tuesday, September 16, 2025.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to inform the general public that with the improvement in the security situation in Iran, a decision has been taken for the Embassy to resume its operations on Tuesday, 16th September, 2025,” the statement read. Due to rising tensions between Iran and Israel, the MFA announced on Monday, June 16, 2025, that Ghana’s Mission in Tehran would be closing. Both nations exchanged missile strikes throughout the intensified battle, resulting in property destruction and civilian fatalities. To protect Ghanaian nationals and MFA employees in Iran, the temporary closure was implemented as a precaution.
“The temporary closure of the Embassy of Ghana in Tehran, Iran was to guarantee the safety of the staff of the Mission during heightened tension between Iran and Israel,” the MFA stated. The Ministry promised Ghanaians that even though the Embassy would reopen, it would keep a careful eye on events in the Middle East and act quickly if necessary.
“Notwithstanding this decision, the Ministry will continue to monitor the situation to ensure that the safety of the staff working in the Embassy and the Ghanaian community in Iran is not compromised.” Additionally, it reassured the public of its dedication to the well-being of Ghanaians in Iran and promised to provide frequent updates as needed.
