The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has taken a historic step in recognizing cultural excellence by awarding diplomatic passports to five distinguished Ghanaians who continue to elevate the nation’s image on the global stage. The announcement came during the media launch of the Diaspora Summit 2025, set for 19–20 December under the theme “Resetting Ghana: The Diaspora as the 17th Region.”
Delivering his remarks, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to deepening engagement with the diaspora and harnessing its skills, knowledge, and resources for national development. He explained that under the powers conferred on him by the Passports and Travel Certificates Decree of 1967 (NLCD 155), the ministry was authorizing diplomatic passports for five cultural ambassadors as part of efforts to amplify Ghana’s global influence.
The Honourees
Those honoured include:
– Rocky Dawuni – international reggae star and Grammy nominee.

– Anita Erskine – award-winning broadcaster and media personality.
– Ibrahim Mahama – contemporary artist.

– Dentaa Amoateng – entrepreneur and actress
– Wode Maya –Ghanaian YouTuber and digital storyteller.

According to the Minister, these figures were chosen not only for their individual achievements but also for their ability to mobilize and inspire people of African descent across the world.
The recipients expressed heartfelt appreciation for the recognition. Entrepreneur and entertainment executive Dentaa Amoateng noted:
“I don’t take these things lightly, and it will only encourage me to keep going. Sometimes when you’re in your own zone, you don’t realize people are watching, but gestures like this show they are.” Similarly, Wode Maya admitted that holding a diplomatic passport had never crossed his mind, given his humble background, describing the honour as both surprising and deeply encouraging.
By granting diplomatic passports to cultural ambassadors, Ghana reaffirms its role as a pacesetter on the African continent, a nation that values creativity, talent, and global connection. The move also signals the country’s determination to reset and strengthen its ties with the diaspora as a driving force for development.
