The Chairman of Parliament’s Health Committee, Mark Kurt Nawaane, has raised concerns over the slow pace of progress in Ghana’s healthcare sector, warning that the country is losing its competitive edge.
Speaking at the National Health Dialogue organised by the Tobinco Media Group, Mr. Nawaane noted that although the country has the knowledge and capacity to improve its health system, implementation has lagged.
“We know what to do, but progress has been very slow. Countries we once led are catching up. Kenya has overtaken us in healthcare,” he stated.
He further highlighted government plans to expand primary healthcare infrastructure as part of efforts to address gaps in access and service delivery.
“In the 2026 budget, the Ministry of Local Government is expected to build at least two CHPS compounds in every district,” he added.
The remarks formed part of broader discussions at the dialogue, which brought together key stakeholders to examine challenges within the health sector and propose strategies for improvement.
