The Beverage Consumers and Bar Owners Association of Ghana, popularly known as the Ghana Drunkards Association, has announced a nationwide “consumption break” from November 10 to November 17, 2025, encouraging its members to pause alcohol intake for reflection and health screening.

In a statement issued by the Association, the leadership said the decision follows the recent passing of several prominent figures, including statesmen, musicians, pastors, and close affiliates of the organization — events that have left members in mourning and led to increased alcohol consumption.

The week-long break is intended to give members, estimated at 16.7 million nationwide, an opportunity to reflect on their lives, undergo medical checkups, and seek spiritual renewal.

“We encourage all members to use this period to engage their religious leaders to pray for the nation, the President, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, and the leadership of our association,” the statement read.

The Association also reminded members to remain vigilant during the upcoming festive season, urging them to ensure that all beverages consumed are approved by the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA).

The leadership expressed appreciation to bar owners who continue to support the Association’s efforts in promoting responsible drinking, while also appealing to the government for assistance with reflective gear to improve visibility of members crossing roads at night.

“Long live Ghana, long live our association,” the statement concluded.
