Ghana’s Interior Minister, Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, has reaffirmed the country’s commitment to deepening bilateral relations with Burkina Faso following a high-level meeting with officials from the neighbouring country.
The minister disclosed in a Facebook post that he received a delegation led by Emile Zerbo, Burkina Faso’s Minister of Transport and Territorial Administration, at his office in Accra. The delegation included Burkina Faso’s Ambassador to Ghana and was in the country for engagements with government officials aimed at strengthening cooperation.
Discussions during the meeting focused on enhancing collaboration across key sectors, while also highlighting the long-standing historical and cultural ties between the two countries.
Mr. Mubarak expressed appreciation for Burkina Faso’s support to Ghana during periods of difficulty, particularly during the Gbinyiri conflict last year, when some Ghanaians sought refuge in the neighbouring country.
He also acknowledged concerns surrounding the recent killings of Ghanaian traders in Burkina Faso. The Interior Minister reiterated Ghana’s commitment to promoting peace, security and stability, and welcomed further proposals to enhance cooperation for mutual benefit.
For his part, Mr. Zerbo underscored the strong relationship between the two nations, describing Ghana and Burkina Faso as “one people separated only by territorial boundaries.”
He also commended the strategic importance of the Port of Tema in facilitating trade and commerce between the two countries.
