The Chief of the Defence Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces, Lieutenant General William Agyapong, has announced a significant government initiative to address accommodation challenges and strengthen the country’s military capacity.

Speaking at the Armed Forces’ end-of-year non-denominational religious parade at Burma Camp on Sunday, December 14, 2025, held under the theme “Kept by the Power of God,” Lt Gen Agyapong revealed that 2,000 housing units will be rolled out nationwide, with 700 units earmarked for Accra across five garrisons.

“Next year, we will see a massive improvement in our accommodation situation. The government has sanctioned arrangements that will see the rollout of over 2,000 housing units across all garrisons. And in Accra, we are expecting about 700 housing units in 5 garrisons,” he said.

He added that over the next five years, the Armed Forces expect an additional 8,000 housing units, ensuring that personnel have decent places of abode.

Lt Gen Agyapong also disclosed that the government has sanctioned a comprehensive retooling package to enhance the operational capacity of the Armed Forces.

“His Excellency the President has also sanctioned a retooling package that will see major platforms added to our stock. We will see additional air platforms in the form of helicopters and long-haul jets. We will see offshore patrol boats that are also being arranged for.”

For the Army, he noted, the package will include Armoured Vehicles, Armoured Personnel Carriers, weapons, vehicles, defence stores, protective gear, and ammunition.

The Chief of Defence Staff further tackled recent misinformation circulating in the media regarding allowances for Ghanaian UN peacekeepers.

“With regards to some viral video that has been running around the media space, alleging that the government of Ghana receives so much money for peacekeeping, and it gives so little. These are very far from facts. Let’s make use of our knowledge, let’s make use of our discerning nature, and don’t let us fall for some of this misinformation,” he cautioned.
