Ghana Airports Terminates McDan Aviation Deal Over Unpaid Fees

The deal, signed in August 2022, allowed McDan Aviation to run Fixed Base Operation services from Terminal 1. Airport officials said the company began defaulting on licence fees, rent and royalties soon after the agreement took effect. Although McDan later cleared arrears in 2024, the company again fell behind, with no payments recorded throughout 2025.

Ghana Airports Company Limited has terminated its agreement with McDan Aviation Handling Services Ltd. after the firm repeatedly failed to meet financial obligations tied to its operations at Kotoka International Airport.

GACL said it issued several notices, including a formal termination warning in January 2025. McDan proposed a payment plan and issued post-dated checks but later asked the airport operator not to deposit them. On Jan. 16, 2026, GACL formally ended the contract and locked up Terminal 1, directing the company to vacate.

McDan Aviation made a payment equivalent to $265,000 in late February, which GACL said covers about half of the outstanding debt. The airport operator stressed that the payment will only be treated as debt settlement and does not reinstate the agreement.
