A new visa policy implemented by the Ghanaian government will process applications in no more than five working days, a significant cut from the previous four to six-week turnaround time.

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Minister of Foreign Affairs, announced the policy, saying it is effective immediately and aims to re-establish Ghana as a top African destination for business, investment, and tourism.

“We have put in place adequate measures at our diplomatic missions to drastically cut down the visa processing time,

This new visa policy takes immediate effect.” According to a Facebook post from the Ministry.

Systems have already been put in place at Ghana’s diplomatic missions around the world, the Minister said, to guarantee the expedited regime’s effective and seamless implementation.

Following President John Dramani Mahama’s first declaration that “Ghana is open for business” on January 7, 2025, the action was taken.

According to the Foreign Minister, this policy removes long-standing bureaucratic obstacles that have irritated investors and tourists, giving that vision real-world application.

“As Foreign Minister, I am committed to positioning Ghana as the preferred destination for investors and tourists by making the country more competitive and eliminating red tape,” Mr. Ablakwa mentioned.

The Ministry emphasized that the revised timeline does not, however, ensure automatic approval.

“A decision will be made within five working days as to whether one is eligible for a Ghanaian visa or not,” the statement explained.

Increased tourism, foreign direct investment, and increased interaction with the Ghanaian diaspora are all anticipated benefits of the expedited policy.

In conclusion, the minister stated ;
“Ghana is truly open for business. Come enjoy the Black Star experience.”
