Former Black Stars assistant coach George Boateng has signalled his readiness to step into a first-team head coach role, expressing confidence in his abilities after years of coaching development.
At 49, Boateng has amassed extensive experience, initially starting his coaching career with Kelantan in 2014.
His journey through the coaching ranks includes significant roles with Aston Villa’s U-23 squad and Blackburn Rovers’ U-18 team, where he honed his skills.
Boateng’s most high-profile role came in 2022 when he served as assistant coach to Otto Addo during Ghana’s World Cup campaign. Despite the team’s early exit, the Dutch-born Ghanaian gained valuable insight that further strengthened his coaching portfolio.
Though his most recent appointment as Coventry’s first-team coach ended after just four months, Boateng remains optimistic about taking the next step in his career.
“I’ve done a lot of learning and developing as a coach, and now I feel ready to be a head coach,” he told Soccer Africa.
His statement aligns with reports that Boateng is among the candidates being considered for the vacant managerial position at Blackburn Rovers.
