Economist and leadership expert Prof. Stephen Adei has issued a strong critique of political, traditional, and security authorities, accusing them of contributing significantly to Ghana’s worsening water pollution crisis.
He made these remarks at the special November edition of the Corporate Prayers and Leadership Training held at the DOR Event Annex in North Kaneshie on Tuesday, 18th November 2025.
Prof. Adei stated that leaders entrusted with the protection of national resources have instead become complicit in their destruction.
“The politicians, the chiefs and the security agents — they are responsible for polluting the whole of Ghana’s water sources, and they have a way of making it look nice. For example, the current government, which in many ways is doing well, has legalized galamsey,” he said.
Shifting focus to leadership ethics, he cautioned leaders at all levels against abusing the privileges attached to their positions.
“If you are going to be a leader who will motivate people under you, never abuse the privileges of your position,” he emphasized.
Prof. Adei’s remarks formed part of a broader call for integrity, accountability, and exemplary leadership in both public and private institutions.
