The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has announced that the suspended 2025/2026 recruitment screening exercise for the Greater Accra Region will resume on Thursday, November 20, 2025.

The exercise, which was halted last week following a deadly stampede that claimed six lives at the El-Wak Sports Stadium, will now continue under a revised structure aimed at improving safety and efficiency.

The announcement was contained in a statement signed by Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director General of Public Relations at GAF.

Eight Sub-Centres Created to Reduce Congestion

To prevent a recurrence of last week’s tragedy, GAF has introduced significant changes to the screening process. The exercise will now be conducted across eight sub-centres in five locations within the Greater Accra Region:

  1. El-Wak Stadium – 2 centres
  1. Nicholson Park, Burma Camp -2 centres
  1. Air Force Base, Burma Camp
  1. Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), Teshie – 2 centres
  1. Eastern Naval Command, Tema

According to the statement, “all qualified applicants, in batches of 600 persons, will receive an SMS specifying their reporting dates, batches, and designated centres.”

Applicants are also encouraged to check the GAF recruitment portal for updates.

To minimize congestion at the screening grounds, GAF has cautioned that family members and other non-applicants will not be permitted entry at any of the designated centres.

“Families and friends are cautioned not to accompany potential recruits to the screening centres,” the statement warned.

Board of Inquiry Ongoing; Entire Recruitment Team Replaced

GAF confirmed that a Board of Inquiry investigating the circumstances of last week’s stampede is still working.

In a move to ensure transparency, the Armed Forces has replaced the entire Greater Accra recruitment leadership, appointing:

Commodore F.A. Nyarko – Director General, Human Resource

Colonel F. Kusi-Darko – Director, Manpower

Colonel G.B. Eduah – Director, Information Technology

GAF assured the public that anyone found culpable in the tragic incident will be sanctioned appropriately.

Support for Injured Applicants and Families of Victims

The Armed Forces expressed “deep regret” over the tragedy, extending condolences to families who lost loved ones and wishing the injured a speedy recovery.

All injured applicants will continue to receive free medical care at the 37 Military Hospital until full recovery.

GAF also announced a “special recruitment package” for all injured applicants once they fully recover, as well as support for the affected families.

GAF Appeals for Public Cooperation

The military urged the general public to cooperate fully with the revised processes to ensure a safe and smooth recruitment exercise moving forward.
