The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo, has issued a stern warning to Municipal and District Chief Executives (MCEs) in the region, accusing many of them of complacency and inefficiency in the discharge of their duties.

Speaking at the “Time with the Media” event organized by the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council, Hon. Ocloo did not mince words as she expressed disappointment in the performance of some MCEs. G/A Regional Minister Slams MCEs for “Sleeping on the Job”

“Too many of you are simply sleeping on the job,” she said. “You enjoy the perks of your office but deliver no results. This is unacceptable.”

She emphasized that the issues of sanitation, street lighting, and environmental management must be treated with urgency. According to the Minister, 3,000 new streetlights have been secured through the Ministry of Energy, and each MCE will receive a share to light up their districts — but she warned that there would be no excuses for delays.

“You have two weeks to ensure every light is fixed. I will personally monitor this directive. If you cannot manage this basic task, then you have no business occupying that office,” she cautioned. G/A Regional Minister Slams MCEs for “Sleeping on the Job”

On sanitation, Hon. Ocloo said “Sanitation is not a favour you are doing for the people. It is your job.”

She also raised concern over environmental degradation, particularly the illegal encroachment and filling of Ramsar sites and lagoons, warning that demolition exercises will continue without fear or favour.

The Minister concluded by stating that the performance of all MCEs will now be measured in three key areas: sanitation, street lighting, and environmental management.

“The people of this region are tired of words — they want results, and they want them now,” – she said.
