Heavy rain and strong winds forced the abrupt suspension of final funeral rites for former Defense Minister Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah on Saturday at Jackson Park in Koforidua.
The ceremony, which began at midday, drew a large crowd of family members, government officials, National Democratic Congress (NDC) executives, traditional leaders and members of the public who gathered to pay their last respects.
The government delegation led by First Lady Lordina Mahama attended the service. She was joined by Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, former Finance Minister Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, Communications Minister Sam George, Youth Development Minister George Opare Addo, Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga and several other officials.

Members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) were also present, including Hackman Owusu Agyemang, Dr. Mark Asibey Yeboah, former New Juaben South MP, and Patrick Yaw Boamah, MP for Okaikwei Central.
Shortly after proceedings commenced, worsening weather conditions disrupted the event. Organizers and security officials moved quickly to suspend activities to ensure the safety of mourners.

Dr. Omane Boamah, who also served as Director of Elections and Information Technology for the NDC, died on Aug. 6, 2025, in a Ghana Air Force helicopter crash. The Harbin Z-9EH helicopter went down with eight people on board, killing all passengers, including prominent public officials and military personnel.
