A former parliamentary aspirant for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Bekwai Constituency, Hon. Henry Opoku-Ware has called for the immediate resignation of the party’s national leadership following what he described as a humiliating defeat in the 2024 General Elections.
Speaking during an interview on Simpieso, hosted by Nana Owoahene Acheampong, Hon. Opoku-Ware stated that the party’s current executives must step aside to allow new and vibrant leadership to steer the NPP towards a stronger showing in the 2028 elections.
“The party’s humiliating loss in 2024 is a clear sign that change is needed at the top. We can’t afford to lose the 2028 General Elections,” he said.
Opoku-Ware emphasized that continued reliance on the current leadership could further alienate the party’s base and weaken its prospects for reclaiming power.
His comments add to growing calls within the party’s grassroots for introspection and renewal in the wake of the 2024 electoral loss, which many have attributed to leadership fatigue, internal divisions, and a disconnect with the electorate. The NPP leadership is yet to respond officially to the latest criticisms.
