Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Member of Parliament for Effutu, has made a contribution to the fight against cholera in the region, donating GHC100,000 to the Winneba Municipal Health Directorate.
The generous donation, presented by former Municipal Chief Executive Alhaji Kassim Zubeiru on behalf of the MP, is aimed at aiding efforts to eradicate cholera, a disease that has recently resurfaced in the area.
The donation comes at a critical time as the municipality battles the spread of the disease.
During the handover on February 12, 2025, Zubeiru, alongside party executives, local chiefs, and residents from Atekyedo, underscored Afenyo-Markin’s ongoing commitment to public health.
Although the MP is currently not in the constituency, Zubeiru emphasized that Afenyo-Markin has remained steadfast in his support for the community’s wellbeing.
“We are here today to donate GHC100,000 to support the fight against cholera. The MP is always ready to assist in this effort,” Zubeiru stated.
In addition to the financial contribution, Zubeiru also issued a public health reminder, urging residents along Effutu’s coastline to prioritise cleanliness and avoid open defecation, which has been identified as a major contributor to the cholera outbreak.
He also highlighted Mr Afenyo-Markin’s initiative of building toilet facilities in the area to help mitigate the spread of the disease.
“The MP is not happy about the spread of cholera and is working with health authorities to address the situation,” Zubeiru added.
