Health officials in the Effutu Municipality in the Central Region have confirmed 29 cases of cholera, with one death, as efforts to contain the outbreak continue.
The cases are part of 356 suspected infections recorded at the Effutu Municipal Hospital, with all confirmed patients coming from the same family in a specific area of Winneba.
Authorities have begun contact tracing to prevent the disease from spreading further.
Dr Douglas Amponsah, Acting Medical Superintendent of Winneba Municipal Hospital, said an isolation centre had been set up to manage the outbreak.
“So far, 29 cases have been confirmed out of 356 suspected cases. Interestingly, most of these cases are coming from a particular area within Winneba,” he said.
Dr Amponsah also revealed that two cholera-related deaths had been recorded—one in October 2024 and another in 2025.
“Most of the infected people are children, but the good news is they are responding well to treatment,” he added.
The hospital has assured residents that it is working to contain the outbreak and prevent further infections.
