Despite the initial oversight, the Christian Council and the Catholic Bishops’ Conference are expected to play a key role in shaping the ongoing dialogue at the forum.

President John Dramani Mahama has issued an apology to the Christian Council of Ghana and the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference following a delay in sending invitations to the two groups for the ongoing National Education Forum in Ho.

The forum, which began on Tuesday, 18 February, in the Volta region, aims to engage key stakeholders in discussions on reforms and policies to strengthen Ghana’s education system.

However, both Christian bodies expressed their disappointment after being excluded from the event, prompting Mahama’s public apology.

Speaking at the launch of the forum, President  Mahama  acknowledged the oversight and expressed regret for the delay in invitations.

He assured the religious leaders that the mistake had been swiftly addressed, but still warranted a formal apology.

“On behalf of the planning committee, let me offer my sincerest apologies for the unintentional omission in the delay of your invitation,” Mr Mahama said. “Although the mistake was quickly rectified, it still calls for an unqualified apology.”

The president also highlighted the important role religious organisations play in the education sector, noting that many faith-based institutions own schools across the country. “I am confident that, as purveyors of God’s mercy, you will extend your forgiveness,” he added.

The National Education Forum has brought together education experts, policymakers, and religious leaders to explore key issues, including curriculum development, teacher training, and infrastructure challenges.

The inclusion of faith-based organisations is expected to be a significant contribution to discussions on the future of Ghana’s education system.
