Ghana’s Electoral Commission (EC) has announced a re-run of the Council of State elections in the North East and Ashanti Regions on Monday, 17 February 2025.
The decision follows a tie in the North East Region, where two candidates each secured six votes.
In the Ashanti Region, the rerun was prompted by disruptions during the ballot counting process, which left the election incomplete.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, 12 February, the EC said it had formally requested the Ghana Police Service and the National Election Security Taskforce to bolster security at the election venues to prevent further disturbances.
