Pressure is mounting on President Nana Akufo-Addo to initiate an independent and impartial probe into the dramatic invasion of the residence of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.
The call for a thorough investigation was amplified by former Attorney General and Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu, who has raised concerns over the legality and motive behind the raid.
The controversial operation, which allegedly involved the presence of Richard Jakpa—whose criminal appeal had been pending in the Supreme Court—has left many questioning whether the incident was politically motivated or part of a broader security agenda.
CCTV footage excerpts reportedly captured the invasion, allegedly led by officials from the Office of the National Security Coordinator.
The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) had earlier declared Ken Ofori-Atta a fugitive from justice.
Mr Amidu has drawn attention to the possibility of a coordinated effort between the OSP and the National Security apparatus, suggesting that unless proven otherwise, the sequence of events gives the perception of collusion.
According to him, Ghanaians deserve full transparency regarding who sanctioned the operation, the reasons behind it, and whether it was conducted within the bounds of the law.
“The nation has a right to know the motive and the reasons for the Rambo-style invasion of the former Minister’s home in his absence under the watch of the President as Chairman of the National Security Council,” Mr Amidu stated.
He further argued that had Mr Jakpa’s appeal not been withdrawn by the newly appointed Attorney General under the Mahama administration, it is unlikely that Mr Jakpa would have been involved in such an operation.
The former Special Prosecutor insists that President Mahama must take decisive action to address the situation, given his constitutional responsibility as the ultimate authority over security matters.
Mr Amidu also warned that failure to investigate the matter thoroughly could erode public confidence in the government’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and protecting citizens’ rights.
