The Ghana Police Service has appointed DCOP Emmanuel Teye Cudjoe as the new Ashanti Regional Police Commander, effective immediately.
DCOP Cudjoe replaces DCOP Frank Abrokwa, who was transferred to the Police Headquarters in Accra following a security lapse during the Ashanti Regional Council of State election on February 11.
The Council of State election, held at the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (ARCC) in Kumasi, was marred by violent disruptions.
A group of men, allegedly linked to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) from Obuasi, stormed the venue and interrupted the sorting of ballots, causing chaos.
The police, led by Abrokwa, struggled to contain the situation, which led to his swift reassignment.
DCOP Cudjoe, previously the Central North Regional Police Commander, inherits the role with a mandate to restore order and enhance security in the region.
Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene welcomed the new appointment, expressing confidence that Cudjoe would be instrumental in maintaining peace and stability moving forward.
