Former Hearts of Oak and Ghana Black Stars defender Dan Quaye has weighed in on the controversial penalty awarded to Morocco, insisting the referee made the correct decision despite the spot kick being missed.
The incident, which occurred in the second half of the match, sparked widespread debate among fans and analysts, with many questioning whether the challenge warranted a penalty. Quaye, however, was firm in his assessment.
“For me, it was a clean penalty,” Quaye said during a post-match discussion with the Tobinco Media Group.
Morocco was awarded the penalty after the referee judged the challenge to be a foul inside the box. However, the North Africans failed to capitalise on the opportunity, missing the spot kick and losing a crucial chance to take the lead.
