The High Court has rejected an attempt by Nana Akua Afriyie, the NPP’s parliamentary candidate for Ablekuma North, to stop a planned rerun in 19 polling stations.
The rerun scheduled for July 11, 2025 is part of the Electoral Commission’s (EC) efforts to resolve the dispute over the December 2024 parliamentary election.
Justice Ali Baba Abature said the request to block the rerun was “unmeritorious,” adding that the Electoral Commission (EC) must be allowed to carry out its constitutional duty.
Afriyie argued that the EC was already directed by the court in January to collate results and declare a winner without organizing fresh polls. Her lawyers pointed to EC statements suggesting that only three polling stations were pending.
But the court ruled that ensuring fair representation was more important, clearing the EC to go ahead with the rerun.
Earlier, NPP General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua accused the EC of defying court orders and acting in contempt by planning the rerun.
