The Chief of Anyima, Obrempong Ameyaw Amponsem II, has urged the government and security agencies to take immediate measures to prevent potential violent clashes between the Nkoranza and Mo (Dega) traditional authorities over a longstanding land boundary dispute.
Speaking at a durbar of chiefs and community members during the celebration of the Yam Festival in Anyima, the chief expressed concern about the growing influence of social media in spreading misinformation and fueling unrest among young people.
According to him, these developments are reigniting long-standing land boundary disputes that, if not averted, could threaten the peace in the area.
He emphasized that for years, the communities of Nkoranza and Moo (Dega) have coexisted peacefully, despite their historical land disagreements. However, the current escalation, largely driven by derogatory social media posts and agitation among the youth, is placing the entire Kintampo area in a volatile situation.
If not addressed swiftly, it could result in violence, destruction of property, or even loss of life.
He also praised the longstanding harmony among Muslims, Christians, and traditional believers in the area. In his remarks, he acknowledged and appreciated the presence of dignitaries, including Sariki Fanyinama III, National President of the Wangara Communities in Ghana, who graced the occasion with his presence.
