The Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana has demanded the immediate removal of the Minister for Transport, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, accusing him of failing to deliver meaningful improvements in the sector.
David Agboado, the association’s public relations officer, said the call aligns with President John Dramani Mahama’s stated vision to “rebuild and reset Ghana,” which he argued requires fresh ideas, decisive action and strong leadership across all ministries.
“Most sectors are performing and improving in Ghana, but our sector Minister is not delivering,” Mr Agboado said in an interview on Accra FM on Thursday, January 15, 2026.
“We must call a spade a spade and stop pretending when things are clearly not working.”
Mr Agboado criticised the minister for what he described as persistent inaction in addressing the needs of commercial transport operators. He said the ministry should prioritise policies that would ease the importation of vehicles, thereby reducing the burden on drivers and improving service delivery to the public.
“If the Minister raises his game, commercial operators can get access to vehicles to serve the people better,” he noted.
The association emphasised that its demand was not simply for a change in personnel but for a substantive shift in leadership. “We do not need another underperforming Minister. We need a Minister who will perform and move the transport sector forward,” Mr Agboado said.
He questioned why Mr Nikpe continues to remain in office despite what he described as ongoing challenges in the sector. Ghana’s reset agenda, he insisted, can only succeed if ministers are held accountable for results.
