The aircraft reportedly came down at Oniku Drive School Park, close to the central business district of Tema. Emergency responders, led by the Ghana National Fire Service, are at the scene conducting recovery operations and securing the area.

The cause of the crash remains unknown, and authorities are actively investigating the incident.

The crash prompted a quick response from personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service, who rushed to the scene to douse the flames at the site.

With the help of law enforcement officers from the Ghana Police Service, the emergency response team managed to retrieve the charred bodies of the victims.

Micheal Ofori, an eyewitness who was passing by on a motorbike said he saw the helicopter approaching before it suddenly crashed.

“I was on a motorbike when I saw it approaching and all I heard was a crash. Luckily for us there was a borehole here, so we were able to quench the fire. Fortunately, all the students were fine, but the passengers didn’t make it out alive,” he said.

Assembly Member for the Kwasi Plange Electoral Area, Ahmed Abdulai, said he was with the police commander when they received the distress call about the incident.

“I was in the police commander’s office when we got a call that something had happened at Site 18, so we immediately rushed here to check it out for ourselves,” he said.

Mr Abdulai described the incident as unprecedented in the area and assured that steps would be taken to support the school and protect the pupils.

“This has never happened here before, so later in the day we will sit down with the teachers and think of ways to help the students and protect them,” he added.

This remains a developing story, and further updates are expected as more information emerges.
