Fresh off his by-election triumph, Bernard Bediako Baidoo, the incoming Member of Parliament for Akwatia, pledged unwavering dedication to his constituents. In remarks captured by News Ghana on September 3, 2025, Baidoo described his victory as “a clear mandate,” promising to honor voters’ trust and serve with commitment and transparency.

According to official results, Baidoo secured 18,199 votes, defeating his closest rival, Solomon Asumadu of the NPP, who garnered 15,235 votes across 119 polling stations. The total valid votes stood at 33,518, boosting the NDC’s parliamentary standing to 184 seats, while the NPP held 87, along with four independents.

Addressing the central role of mining in Akwatia, Baidoo touched on both economic potential and environmental concerns. “Akwatia is synonymous with mining; we just have to do it responsibly,” he emphasized, signaling a commitment to sustainable local development.

While the election proceeded largely peacefully, isolated incidents, including the arrest of an individual for campaign poster vandalism and a tense encounter between party officials at a polling station, marred the calm atmosphere.
